There are some hidden gems in San Francisco that are fun, educational, and adventurous for families. Many of these activities are free too! Here are some activities that I think are great finds for little ones:
For animals and creatures visit the local sea life at the Aquarium of the Bay on Pier 39, look for wild parrots in Telegraph Hill or for turtles in the pond at the Botanical Gardens.
Get a sweet treat to eat at Ghiradelli Ice Cream Shoppe or go back in time at The Ice Cream Bar in Cole Valley and sit at the original 1930′s soda fountain. Take that sugar rush to Golden Gate Park Children’s Quarter for play time in the nation’s first ever playground with slides, rope climbing, historic carousel rides or slide down the 25 foot tube slide in the Yerba Buena playground.
Build sand castles on Baker Beach or have a picnic at Crissy Field with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Explore history at the Fire Department Museum and see an engine from 1810, visit the cable car museum to learn how they work and then go ride one or climb aboard the 1886 Balclutha ship at Hyde Street Pier.

If the weather gets gloomy head inside the incredible Academy of Sciences for rainforest, planatrium, aquarium, and natural history exhibits, visit the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, get active and go ice skating inside Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center or go bowling at the Presidio Bowling Center.
